Wall Hanging Quilt Kit for Houston Quilt Market I have been cutting fabric for the Quilt Market. I’m guessing a whole handful of blogs are in the “Quilt Market Prep is underway” mode. My mode- Cut fabric for KITS. Thank goodness for my AccuQuilt Cutter + Hexagon die. 672 fabric hexagons cut. Seriously. 672 divided among 28 kits. And another 30 hexagon templates cut from posterboard. Grand total: 702 HEXAGONS. This fall, on Sunday, October 27th, I will be teaching a Wall Hanging Quilt Project from my book, Hexagons Made Easy. If you haven’t signed up for the class or if you have some free time that Sunday morning before you have to catch your flight- sign up for the class. Kit sponsors include MODA, Martingale Publishing, Fairfield Batting, and Brewer Quilting & Sewing provided Frixion Pens . Loads of goodies, I think. You’ll leave with the knowledge and all the supplies to make a finished quilt. Pfaff sewing machines will be in our classroom and we will get to learn the Hexagons Made Easy technique as well as talk about some design elements and free motion quilting on a domestic/home sewing machine. Shop owners will also see how cost effective it is to kit this project and offer the class back at their own shops. Space is limited, so do sign up. I’ll see YOU in class. I cannot wait for...

Hexagon Wall Hanging Class Sample

Hexagon Wall Hanging Class Sample

And now back to good ole sewing and quilting posts! I’ve been working on a Class Sample for the Hexagon wall-hanging in Hexagons Made Easy. I hope to teach the class locally (in Texas) and I have a spot to teach at the Houston Quilt Market this fall. (!!!!) I’ll have more details on that for you later, as we get closer to October. So lets see the quilt: It is made exactly the same way as the Hexagon Circle chapter in the book. Since this will be a kit, offered with the class in Houston, the size has been altered slightly to make for easier class and kit cutting. I quilted this piece on my home sewing machine, since it is 30″ square. First up, making the quilt sandwich…. mmmmm….. sandwich…. Next I wanted to show you how much fuzz is on my free motion quilting foot. Is that “bearding” or just a dirty foot or what? Is it a problem? I did use a batting scrap from my longarmin’ friend- so I really don’t know what kind/brand it is. It was soft, so I grabbed it. That will NOT be the case for the kits. The Houston kits will have batting sponsorship from a wonderful brand. (details coming soon) But in the mean time- What’s up with the fuzz?   And some quilting fills. I used 4 total fills on this sample. This quilt design is perfect to make a quick project and practice those free motion quilting designs you’ve seen all over the internet, at quilt shows and in book stores. I love doing the free motion quilting. Wanna see how the quilting designs turned out? All in all, not too bad. As always, click to enlarge the image.   One sample down. A few more to go. I know when I see quilts in books or in classes/shops, I love to see the different colorways. So I suppose it is fair to show you the original quilt here too- in the “original” colorway. Neutral colored cotton background, Anna Maria Horner scraps in the...

The check is in the mail! Seriously, I just decided to attend quilt market this fall. I mailed my registration in right before the deadline and will be there on Friday and Saturday. I’m pretty excited. I cannot wait to get some wholesale shopping done. If you are around and want to meet up, drop me an email. I will not have my own booth this year, but I do hope to see alot of friends and business peeps. Living in San Antonio is definitely a big perk when Quilt market is just 4 hours away by MiniV. See ya in...
