Hexagons Made Easy Wallhanging

Hexagons Made Easy Wallhanging

on Dec 30, 2014 in Blog, business, classes, Hexagons Made Easy, quilt | 0 comments

Hexagons Hexagons Hexagons Phew – sorry, that is a bit blurry – I have a friend who is looking for a couple quilts to showcase some amazing machine quilting. So… um… yea, I’ll get in on that. She is the amazing machine quilter at Nacho Mama’s Quilt blog. I made up a wall hanging, in the same style as the Hexagons Made Easy workshop kit. This wall hanging features techniques from the book and has 20 hexagons arranged in a modern style. Why Modern? Well, there is lots of asymmetry, lots of negative space, and not so much “folk” elements (like blanket stitched hand applique shapes). That pretty much says modern to me. The fabrics in the wall hanging are by Denyse Schmidt for Joanns. First, I applied the facings to the hexagons, as described in Hexagons Made Easy & pressed my shapes. Then I arranged them & pinned them in place. Next up – straight stitch machine applique. Of course, it needs a quick trip to the iron, but this is the finished composition. The wall hanging is about 40″ square. I will not be quilting this myself, so I cannot wait to see what Danielle @ Nacho Mama Quilts will turn this into. Stay tuned. There’s plenty of space for something amazing. The small wall hanging isn’t too jazzy yet, but it is designed for the quilting to really make it spectacular. Just trust me on this one…...

Free Motion Quilted Flowers

Free Motion Quilted Flowers

on Mar 31, 2014 in Blog, business, pattern, quilting | 0 comments

Guess who quilted one of her 4 Plus Quilts?? This girl! Click Image to Enlarge   I decided to try a flower design. Someone posted a flower tutorial – it might have been a free Craftsy sneak-peek video deal. Anywhoo, I watched a few weeks ago and decided I had to try it. I think I kinda screwed it up, since you can’t exactly see the flowers. In the video they make the “stem” and “circle middle” part, then build a flower around it. They took a couple laps around to make the petals. I think they may have done a little 1/8″ echo around the flower, once it was as big as she wanted it. I think, cough cough, I may have forgotten that step. I have petals all willie-nilly around this quilt. Click Image to Enlarge Honestly, I’m just glad it is quilted. It is not a deal-breaker that you cannot see each exact flower. Live and learn, right? Those Plus Quilts are so fast to piece and so great to try out designs. Next one, I’m thinking I’ll put a different fill in each fat quarter. This FREE pattern is available for download here on the site and on the super-dee-dooper CRAFTSY.COM, too. Can we talk Chaos Theory for a minute. I have 12 fat quarters in the quilt. I have 10 of those same fabrics to make the scrappy pieced binding. What are the odds that the exact piece of binding would cover the edge of that particular fat quarter? Well, a thousand million percent because it has happened. To be exact, it happened 3 different times in this quilt. I also always wonder what the odds are that a scrappy binding with a handful of seams will have a seam land on a corner…. well, that happens all.the.time too. Good thing I quilt and don’t wrestly with odds and stats, right? I’d be a mad woman. =) To my math nerds out there – Yes, I realize there’s a whole “But not all 12 fabrics are on the perimeter” Yeah. And a whole “Are the strips of equal length?” Yep. And let’s not forget the little stray squares, so we should break it down...

Hexagons Wall Hanging Workshop

Hexagons Wall Hanging Workshop

on Nov 5, 2013 in Blog, book, business, classes, Hexagons Made Easy | 0 comments

Phew. Houston was a whirlwind. And it was over a week ago. Quilt Market Hangover for sure. I know loads of blogs and websites are showing you booth pictures, but I thought I’d share photos from the Hexagons Made Easy class (Sunday Oct 27th).   The classroom was HUGE. It was wonderful. There were 28 provided sewing machines sponsored by Pfaff. Those were incredible machines. They were so smooth and high-tech.   To my delight, the early morning 8am class was sold out. Thank you all for coming out before Quilt Market even opened that Sunday. There were many coffee cups around the room. The students got to choose from two kit fabrics. Grant Park, a more traditional design and color pallet and DayDream, a more bright modern collection. I started the class by saying “There’s a kit at your machine. It is either traditional or modern. If you want to trade, trade now.” It was cool to see people moving and hopping around peacefully. Quilters are pretty committed to their colors. I cannot blame them. The class was very flexible and at the end of it all these wonderful students made all sorts of designs with the provided fabrics. We had table runners, small designs, experiments and innovations. I loved teaching. The class was smooth and I think the students had a good time. I was so happy with the diverse talented group I had. Thank you all for coming out! If you are a quilt shop and would like me to bring the class to your store, send me an email. reannalilydesigns@gmail.com...

Add ReannaLily Designs to Home Screen

Add ReannaLily Designs to Home Screen

on Oct 17, 2013 in Blog, business, tutorial | 0 comments

Are you all about apps and quick easy access to your favorite digital sources? I have some exciting news. ReannaLily Designs has added a Home Screen Button to the website features. If you are on the site and want it as an app, essentially, bookmarked for later- you can have it at your finger tips. This is a short little blog tutorial for how-to set the Home Screen Button on your Apple device. (iPhone, iPad or iPod). Home Screen Button How-To Here’s the site as it appears on the iPhone. This is a screen shot of my phone. Simply click that center button on your screen. And this will pop up: Click the ADD TO HOME SCREEN button right there. The device will then place a screen shot, or in ReannaLily Designs’ case, an app button to the home screen. You can then move the square icon around to any place on your device. Pretty neat right? Turns out, you can do this with any site. Not all sites have the square image assigned, but don’t worry. Like I said, the device will simply make a screen shot of whatever page you are trying to “bookmark” with a Home Screen Button. If you are wanting to ADD a button image to your own website- it is SUPER easy to do. Check out this tutorial for the coding.  ...

Military Uniform Strip Quilts

Military Uniform Strip Quilts

on Sep 20, 2013 in Blog, book, business, commission, recycle | 0 comments

And the strip quilts are finito. Hooray. Before I show you all the pictures of the quilts, let me first super big huge mega thank the people that rallied to help me make the quilts. Karen Morello, Erica Mitchell and Christine Robbins. The ladies helped piece, quilt and bind these quilts. It was really a great team effort. Thank you thank you thank you! So what’d we make? Military Uniform Quilts Inspired by the book, Deploy That Fabric, we used military uniform fabric and Moda Jelly Rolls to create larger twin size quilts. We made the quilts in the style of the 1600 Quilt Race or Jelly Roll Quilt. Of course, our quilts – in order to be larger than a couch quilt- we used 2 Jelly Rolls + uniform fabric. The last step will be to add a name tape to each quilt for the client. Army Navy Air Force Marines Coast...
