Patriotic Wonky Star Quilt Tutorial

Patriotic Wonky Star Quilt Tutorial

Patriotic Wonky Star Quilt Tutorial Welcome to my Patriotic Wonky Star Quilt tutorial! I recently created this quilt at the request of my best friend. It may or may not be used in an upcoming fundraiser. If it is, I’ll be sure to let you know. It whipped up rather quickly and I thought you might like to see how I did it. The key to fast sewing is the assembly line methods. And there’s even a couple bloopers. Who doesn’t love bloopers? (Ok, I didn’t love them when they were happening, but they are a bit funny now.) There are plenty of ways to create a wonky star, as google will show you, but this is the way I approached it. Supplies 10 Red Fat Quarters 10 Blue Fat Quarters 12 White Fat Quarters 2/3 yard star print binding Finished Size – 70″ x 84″ Cut For this quilt, cut 5″ squares from each fat quarter. A single fat quarter will yield 12 squares 5″ x 5″ This tutorial will work with charm squares. I opted not to use them since the red, white and blue nature of the quilt was my main focus. You’ll need to cut a total of: 120 Red Squares 5″ x 5″ 120 Blue Squares 5″ x 5″ 150 White Squares 5″ x 5″ Make I’m aiming for these blocks pictured above.30 total blocks that will finish up around 14″. Half the blocks are red and half are blue with tidy white stars in the middle. The fabric measurements and cutting requirements will create a quilt 5 blocks x 6 blocks in this color scheme. Use a 1/4″ seam allowance when stitching this project. Start by sorting out 30 white squares. These will be your block middles and you won’t want to cut them. Next, cut the remaining white squares in half at random angles. I placed the white piece over the corner of a red or blue square, making sure this is what it would look like once I stitched it in place. Tilting the white piece and slanting it in various directions will give the wonk to your wonky star block. Then, just “eye balling it” I flipped that white rectangle...

Seamingly Accurate NEW and IMPROVED

Seamingly Accurate NEW and IMPROVED

on Oct 25, 2011 in Blog, business, Houston Market 2011, Seamingly Accurate | 0 comments

I’m so happy to report that after a brief time “off the market” the Seamingly Accurate Seam Guide is back!!! It is new and definitely improved. The guide will re-launch at Houston Quilt Market, Booth #2048. What kind of improvements, you ask?? The paper is more durable and the lines are much more permanent. The adhesive is still reposition-able and user-friendly. The faint blue 5/8th inch commercial sewing pattern seam allowance line is much easier to see. The packaging is more bold, complete with a large photo of the seam guide installed, right on the cover. Of course, the use and installation are the same. Samples of both can be found on the Seamingly Accurate Videos, on the Seam Guide’s web page. seaminglyaccurate.com The product is produced and distributed through ReannaLily Designs. It retails for only $9.95. Ask for it at your local quilt shop. This guide is a must have for beginning sewing enthusiasts and veterans alike. Tell a...

Seamingly Accurate Demo at a Local Quilt Shop

Seamingly Accurate Demo at a Local Quilt Shop

on Dec 7, 2010 in quilt shop, Seamingly Accurate, wichita kansas | 0 comments

I was so happy to be invited to demonstrate the Seamingly Accurate Seam Guide at Picket Fence Quilt shop, in Wichita Kansas. After the demo at the Common Threads Quilt Show, I learned to bring extra inventory. Thank goodness I did because this demo had the seam guides hopping of the shelf. In fact, I’m happy to report, I only have two left and need to re-order! The demo was part of a holiday open house. I have to say, there was a REALLY good turn out. My portion was 1/4th of an hour long free demo/class type deal, set up in the shop classroom. We each did our presentations twice, for two separate groups of ladies. Every chair was full and there were ladies standing in the back. This was my first time to demo the seam guide in a classroom-type setting. I’ve demo’d it plenty of times at shows, where people are walking past- some stopping some still walking. I was really nervous. You can’t really tell in the photo above, though. Who knows what I’m saying in that shot, but I thought y’all would like to see me making the silly face. And can I just tell you how wonderful it was to see this big display right when you walked into the shop??? LOVE IT! That quilt is the Quarter and Dime quilt pattern! It looks so lovely. Thank you for the support, Picket Fence!!! *Thanks to my 10yr old who took all the photos for me. Tell a...

Material Girls Quilt Shoppe

Material Girls Quilt Shoppe

(logo image from Material Girls Quilt Shoppe Website) There’s a new girl in town- or should I say GIRLS. Our town has many quilt shops, but with an 800 active-member guild, there’s plenty of room for more quilt shops. The newest addition is Material Girls Quilt Shoppe. They hosted a grand opening grand party this passed weekend. I was there to enjoy the party. This is Jan and Jo. The run the place. They are super nice and its very clear they are loving their new job- And man, they can throw a party. It was really, pretty full of shoppers, by 10:30a. And it wasn’t even Saturday yet! Door prizes, shopping, snacks, shopping, drinks, oh and um… shopping… Lets check out the store, shall we: mmmmmmmmm…………………………… This shop has a HUGE selection of soft fabrics. I’m sure it all has different market names, per company but the Minki, snuggly soft stuff- tons of it. And I’m super happy to report that Material Girls Quilt Shoppe carries ReannaLily Designs patterns. (You can tell I’m happy because I have the big goofy grin in the picture.) Not only do they carry the patterns, but I’m going to be teaching Intensity on Sept 25th at 10-noon. {{Its the black and white quilt above my silly-self in the picture.}} You’ll see how the Seamingly Accurate seam guide can make the half-square triangles in a snap and learn some scrappy techniques for this fat quarter friendly pattern. Click my classes tab, or head over to the MGQS link to get signed up. Let me show you my absolute favorite part of the store- more favorite than the 5000+ bolts, the class and awesome loft-like layout- yes- more favorite than that: They have a whole center for kids. Its adjacent to a sitting area, in the middle of the store, right by the cash wrap & cutting table. The sitting area has wicker furniture for adults and a whole set for the little people. Can I just say, thank you. I wish more quilt shops would recognize that, yes, sometimes young people with kids would like to give ridiculous amounts of money to your shops. {{This is a huge peeeve for me.}} To see...

Fashionable Updates

Fashionable Updates

on Jul 19, 2010 in Seamingly Accurate, sewing | 0 comments

Last weekend my daughter was sewing on my first sewing machine. My first sewing machine lives in the closet on most days of the year. As a result, he was terribly out of fashion. I had to give him a little update. Notice that lovely Seamingly Accurate he’s wearing? This is how you access the bobbin case, as this “old faithful” doesn’t have a free arm or case, like my Elna. While my daughter was taking her first stab at Free Motion Quilting on a small little “cat quilt”- I was whippin’ up some room darkening curtains for our basement. Ironic, that anyone would want to make a basement darker… But never the less… Three inch hem right there along the top edge. LOVE the seam guide! If you also need a Seamingly Accurate, click the link to purchase one directly from me. ((more pictures of the Free Motion Cat Quilt shortly)) Tell a...
