Texty Trapunto Class
Texty Trapunto Workshop
The Texty Trapunto Workshop in Boerne, TX, recently was a hit. Huge thanks to Sew It Fabulous for hosting the class and thanks to Danielle of Nacho Mama Quilts for organizing it for the San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild.
Students were drafting letters, tracing pre-printed letters and using the Ampersand template. It was quite a collection. Some block projects were enlarged to become pillows, some were going to be wall hangings and some were un-decided but just really really wanted to know how to make those trapunto letters puff up off the quilt.
Cutting and prep work. Stitching and pinning. And of course, quilting quilting quilting!
The pieces for this workshop are small enough that students were comfortable trying free motion quilting (FMQ) on domestic/home machines. Some folks went with the straight line, others wanted to try all sorts of crazy free motion quilting fill designs.
Students even finished blocks in class. (That is always great, right.)
The last step is to spritz the piece with water to dissolve the water soluble thread. It was very Bill Nye the Science Guy as we watched the thread disappear right before our eyes.
My friend Allison took the class and sent me a photo of the near-finished “A” texty trapunto project. Turned out GREAT!
Thanks to everyone who signed up and came out! I think we had a good time.
If you missed this January workshop, I have great news: Tish, at Sew It Fabulous will be hosting me again on, Saturday, February 28th, 2015. You’ll have to call or email the shop to grab yourself a spot.
