1976 Modern Baby Quilt
Whoa. That is alot of morning sun coming in on this fresh little baby quilt. I’m naming it the 1976 Quilt. It’s mod, it’s brown, it’s orange and it’s yellow.
Here’s the quilt before the quilting.
I needed to trim that selvedge edge off and take this out to my HandiQuilter Longarm machine. I’m a “part owner” of the machine. My sweet mom is the “mostly owner.”
I tried to grab a little video. The shot from the side was tricky. I then decided I should just hold the camera with one hand and the HandiQuilter longarm handle with the other hand. …. um…. just know, I hope to get better at the video element…. I’d love to hear your tips & tricks.
Here’s the straight-on video view:
I was trucking right along, adding all my threads to the little thread baggy.
Ultimately, I used yellow to brown variegated thread. You really cannot see the swirl stitching design at all on the brown background. It only shows in the appliqued shapes.
I went to my stash to pick the binding. I have a crazy fabric stash, but for the most part, it all looks like me. (Which does not imply that I am crazy….) There’s a few gifted pieces or swapped pieces or “this was in a bundle” pieces. This is what I chose:
Love that binding. Here it is on the quilt.
I have to show you this, though. You can totally see all the swirls on the back. Hooray! All that work wasn’t for nothing.
I quilted two quilts that afternoon. Stay tuned. I have a collection of photos I need to get into a blog post for the other quilt.
