Ugly Fabric Blocks

on Apr 29, 2014 in charity, SAMQG | 1 comment

One of our San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild members bought some ugly fabric.  It happens.  We all make mistakes.  Ha.  But instead of trashing it or dooming it to some other fabric demise, she cut small 5″ squares of the fabric and has asked guild members to take a piece or two – FREE – add it to any other fabrics you have and make a 12 1/2″ block.  The blocks collected will be added to an outreach project for our guild.

Lawdy, I busted out all sorts of scraps and just started sewing to whatever tune I was singing in my head.

This first one isn’t so bad.  It has some really great fabrics and designers represented, of course…. But that 3rd row from the top…  The one with the little blue dots.  That was the challenge fabric.

Here’s my second block.  Again, a few greats represented… but boy, mixed up like this… yikes!  I cannot wait to see what kind of eye-burning quilt the member makes.  She has assured me with the proper white space, the quilt will all work out.  I believe her.

I really hope I’m able to share a photo of the top or finished quilt, later when that shakes down.

  1. I don’t care for the first one, but there is something quirky about the second one I like. I am of the opinion that there is no such thing as an ugly fabric, then I look through some of the stuff I bought ten years ago and wonder what was I thinking?
