UFO Quilt Challenge

The San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild has issued a UFO challenge.  Though this post isn’t directly part of that, I thought I’d share this project.  Let me tell you the story.  Way Way Way back in 2009 I hosted a Sampler Quilt Block Swap.  It was fun.  I had a many participants and some of you may remember following along on the blog site.  (And you might be thinking, “Whoa, was that back in 2009? I didn’t think it was that long ago.”  Well – it is.  5 years.  FIVE.

I think I joined two sections of the swap.  I used 9 blocks for a quilt.  (below) The quilt was set to be in Learn to Sew Easy Curves, but in the final hours, got cut from publication.  I don’t even think I have a great picture of the quilt finished and quilted.  I’ll have to get that for you.  I also changed up the two background corner fabrics to match the quilt better.  Anywho.  I love love love this quilt and its curve setting.  {{Hum.  I should do a blog post on it, since it isn’t in the book….  stay tuned.}}

But then, after this little baby quilt was made, I had a whole bunch of sampler blocks.  I ended up sharing them with my mom a couple months ago.  In fact, she was in the swap as well, so she already had a small pile of sample blocks…. from  5 years ago.

I guess that was the extra jolt she needed because yesterday, she showed me this QUEEN size sampler.  Pretty great right?  It is colorful and bright and sashed with an off-white.  She’s got a long arm, so I’m sure it will be jammed out in no time at all.

Look at all those fun colors.  Its like candy.  Nice, bright, traditional-quilt candy.  MMMMmmmm…..  Great quilt, MOM!!!

p.s. I cannot believe my office assistant is this tall.  Seriously.

So it looks like I still haven’t done anything for the UFO challenge.  Looks like the best way for  me to get stuff finished is to hand it off to someone who sees it “new for the first time”  OR maybe I’ll get something finished.  The SAMQG challenge lasts through the end of the year.  Heck, that is plenty of time to start a whole new thing and not finished it.  hahahaha…. I think I might be missing the point of the challenge….
