Quilter’s World Feb 2013 – 7-Patch Quilt
It happened. It finally happened!!! My quilt is one the cover of a magazine. Sure, it is the small inset circle image, but it totally counts! Making the cover of a magazine has been one of my goals ever since 2004. Seriously. I’ve made a back cover or two and even a table of contents, but now I can actually check off the COVER box. Wahoooooo!!!
Over the Christmas holiday, my Mother In Law and myself were at Joanns. She asked if I had any quilts in any of the magazines on the rack in front of her. “I have one in Quilter’s World in February, but I don’t know if it is out yet.”?? So she looked around and says “This one?”?? OH MY GOSH! YES!!! When I arrived home, the Designer’s Copy and finished quilt were on my couch. They were delivered that afternoon. Best.Friday.Evah.
Something super easy and super fast and a tiny bit “Something About Mary” (Hitchhiker 7 minute abs scene).
9-patch, that sounds good, but what if someone came out with 8-patch or 7-patch?
Well, that is what I did- I took the 9 patch and made it faster, simpler and more modern…. oh, and eliminated 2 patches.
It is a contemporary traditional style of quilt, for sure. All the blocks are 15″ finished in the quilt design, and are all made using a strip piecing technique, just like in traditional quilting. I used Art Gallery Fabric solids, Pure Elements, for the entire design and my friend, Evelyn, did the square quilting design. You can see that much better in the magazine article. ((*The real quilt and magazine pattern are much bigger than the digital mock-up, pictured above.))
On newsstands, at craft stores and at quilt shops now! If you need a quick project, this one is for you!

OMG, Jen! It totally counts! So exciting! And I am thrilled to share pages with you in this issue! I haven’t had a chance to actually look at the magazine in full yet, so I am glad you mentioned that was your pattern; I did notice it on the cover and thought it was very Jen-like, but I didn’t know it actually was you! Congrats! And now I will stop using exclaimation points as I have used up my quota for the day.
