SAMQG Block of the Month

I’m loving my new quilt guild so far!  The San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild sure knows how to make a girl feel welcome.  I jumped right in and grabbed a kit for the October Block of the Month.  The block is based on and Elizabeth Hartman block, I believe.  Can you believe they give you a fabric kit to work with?  How awesome is that?!?!  Not only are they fabrics I don’t own and wouldn’t normally buy, but whomever wins the pile of blocks will be assured that all the fabrics match and will look great in a finished quilt.

I went to work the next day, after my first guild meeting.  I thought if I waited, I might forget to make the block, or forget the specifics which were announced at the meeting.  I know you know what I’m talking about….

The longer, fatter strips were used without cutting, to give me enough fabric to make 3 total stripes.  Hopefully, that doesn’t bust the rules.  We shall see.  Then I went on to add the strips into the background, one at a time- wonkily.  Ah, another great adverb.  Wonkily.

Last thing to do would be trim it to the required 12 1/2″ (unfinished) for the big drawing next month.  For now I have it pinned on my design wall, in hopes that I don’t misplace it as I continue to unpack/paint in new the studio space.
