Free Motion Quilting Motif How-To
I recently quilted a baby quilt with a unique echoed swirl design and I thought I’d show you how I made that design with my sewing machine.? (The how-to is done with Sharpie on Paper.? Do NOT put Sharpie on your quilt, of course.? Those should be stitching lines- but I’m sure you totally already know that.)
Draw horizontal lines, with a small swirl every 4-6 inches or so.? Make a second, parallel line, with swirls, but stagger their placement.? The second row, and subsequent rows, will need to be about 4-6 inches below the first.
Make an echo stitch, or stitching line that follows the same shape, 1/4″- 1/2″ away from the top edge of these swirled lines.? I made two echo stitching lines.
Repeat Step 2, echo stitching two rows along the bottom edge of the swirled lines.
Fill with pebbles in between the two echoed swirled lines.
