Blogger’s Quilt Festival

Tis the season to have a little quilt in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. (#351!!)

Quilting Detail

As you know, I was super inspired by the MQS 2011.  For this quilt I wanted to see if I could mix quilting textures to make my very own, cough cough, Whole Cloth Quilt.  I also wanted to try different quilting motif’s, use a premarked design and use colored thread.  I {heart} a good challenge.

Technically- I totally did it.

Quilt Design

The little quilt block is about 18″ square and will likely become a throw pillow cover.  The pink polka fabric is a recycled vintage sheet, on the front and back, which I purchased at a thrift store.  Hum, I think I’ll need to go back to the thrift store to purchase a pillow form, too.

The actual design shape was made in Adobe Illustrator.  You can download and use my quilting guide design, if you like.  I designed 1/4 of the design, so it would be the size that would fit on a piece of paper.  Yeh- that is how precise I am for this “test piece”.  I taped the paper onto the glass portion of my screen door and started tracing.  Then once I had the shapes blocked in on fabric, with blue water soluble pen, I started brainstorming on what kinds of things I’d quilt to fill in each design.  I even quilted it in PINK thread!

I’m branching out, people.  =)  Needless to say, I have about a zillion practice hours to go before I can make something MQS quality.  It was a very fun start and quite a relaxing afternoon’s project.

Be sure to check out all the other amazing quilts on the Blogger’s Quilt Festival!
